How to choose
What we’d tell a friend before they buy. Take the numbers with you — or bring them in and we’ll walk the floor with you.
- 01
Start with how you sleep
Side sleepers need a softer surface so hips and shoulders sink in and the spine stays straight. Back sleepers usually do best on medium-firm. Stomach sleepers need firmer support so the hips don't drop.
- Side: soft to medium
- Back: medium to medium-firm
- Stomach: firm
- Combination: medium with good bounce
- 02
Know what's inside
Hybrids pair pocketed coils with foam comfort layers — good bounce, good airflow, good edge support. All-foam mattresses isolate motion best. Innerspring is classic, cool and bouncy.
- Hot sleepers lean hybrid or innerspring
- Light sleepers sharing a bed lean memory foam
- Edge support matters if you sit on the side to dress
- 03
Lie down properly
Give each mattress five full minutes in your real sleep position. Bring your pillow if you can — the wrong pillow can make the right mattress feel wrong.
- Try it with your partner, at the same time
- Roll over a few times — notice how easily you move
- Lie on the edge as well as the middle
- 04
Don't forget the foundation
A new mattress on an old sagging box spring will feel like an old mattress. Adjustable bases add head-up reading and feet-up rest, and many people with reflux or snoring find them a real help.
- Check what foundation the mattress warranty requires
- Adjustable bases fit inside most bed frames
- Mattress protectors keep warranties valid

How to Measure for a Sectional (So It Actually Gets Inside)
The room is the easy part. The doorway, the hallway and that one stair turn are where sectionals go to die.
